Initial testing Voom III
** The completed real world testing of the Voom III is now available here
Received a new Voom III with updated firmware
Initial impressions:
• The memory issue I ran in to with the first unit I tried appears to have been corrected in this latest firmware release
• Everyone seems to post what can best be described as “theoretical performance specs” but this is “real-world” FAST. This unit with the new firmware actually performs better then the first unit I tried as well.
Initial testing:
• Wiped a 1 TB Seagate 7200.11 in about 3 hours
• Imaged a 320 GB Western Digital WD3200AAKS at 5.168 GB/Min Hash Verification at 5.5 GB/Min
• Imaged a 500 GB Western Digital WD5000AACS at 5.0 GB/Min Hash Verification at 5.5 GB/Min
The best feature in my opinion beyond the amazing speed is the ability to write to two destination drives simultaneously. This is huge for me as most of my imaging jobs need two copies and it is a hassle to create an image then copy the entire drive and verify the hashes.... the Voom III eliminates that extra time consuming step.
I plan to perform a complete Forensic Validation of the Voom III using NIST derived methods and then image a range of drives. Will post additional information as it becomes available.
